PCDA (Army) Pune Observes Vigilance Awareness Week

Pune, 2nd November 2023: Corruption, often referred to as a termite, slowly consumes the fabric of a nation, transforming it into an inefficient state. Vigilance Awareness Week is an annual observance in the Defence Accounts Department, following the directives of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), New Delhi.

This year, the week is being observed as an Outreach Programme from October 30, 2023, to November 5, 2023, to create awareness and sensitize the masses about the importance of integrity values and ethics in public life. The theme for this year is “SAY NO TO CORRUPTION; COMMIT TO THE NATION.”

The inauguration ceremony for Vigilance Awareness Week took place in the outside premises near the Mahatma Gandhi statue at the Office of Principal Controller of Defence Accounts, (Army), in Pune. Esteemed officials and all staff members actively participated, showcasing their commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity values and ethics.

During the inauguration, the Pledge (Oath) in Hindi was recited by Madhu Gandhi, SAO, followed by the English version read by Ravi Kumar, SAO. All officials took a solemn pledge to observe honesty, integrity, and transparency in their professional and personal lives.

Dr. Rajeev Chavan, IDAS, ndc, PCDA(Army) Pune, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the paramount importance of vigilance in fostering a corruption-free society. He stressed the need for collective efforts to eradicate corruption and promote ethical conduct in all spheres and walks of life. Dr. Rajeev Chavan highlighted the pivotal role of vigilance in building a strong, vibrant, and progressive nation. He urged everyone to remain vigilant not only during this week but throughout the year, encouraging employees to report any unethical practices to proper authorities.

He concluded his address with Mahatma Gandhi’s quote stating, “We had enough for everyone’s need but we cannot satisfy their greed.”

Vigilance Awareness Week is an initiative by the Government of India to promote probity, integrity, transparency, and accountability in Public Administration. PCDA(Army), Pune, has taken proactive steps to organize various awareness programs, including debate competitions, essay competitions in the office and Army Public School, KV schools, workshops, and interactive sessions on Vigilance Awareness throughout the week.

A special Talk Show featuring eminent speakers, a dedicated day for cybersecurity, and a panel discussion on Preventive Administrative Vigilance are part of the week’s activities. The closing ceremony on November 5, 2023, will be followed by the launch of the VIGILANCE magazine, a first of its kind in PCDA(Army) Pune.
