PCMC: COVID cases may reach 15,000 by the end of July in Pimpri Chinchwad

Pimpri, July 9, 2020: After successful prediction of 3000 Coronavirus Disease (COVID19) cases in June, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has now predicted that by the end of July PCMC will have 12,700 cases and may reach 15,000 also. This prediction is based on the estimate of rising in testing and the increase in Covid-19 cases.
The number of cases in PCMC as of July 8 has gone up to 5493. The addition of 2000 cases has happened in the first week of July. Out of these cases, 1,800 are active cases and are admitted in Covid Care Centres (CCCs) and civic hospitals.
PCMC Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar said that daily COVID sample testing will go upto 376 at YCM Hospital in Pimpri. PCMC will also conduct one lakh rapid tests. The COVID cases are not limited to specific areas. They are coming from all over the city. After the lockdown was relaxed, cases are increasing due to the opening of shops, markets and industries.
PCMC has a bed capacity of 4000 and eight CCCs. The administration is planning to add 5,000 beds in the next two weeks. This will increase the total capacity to 9,000 beds.
