PCMC Slips To No. 41 Position In Smart City Ranking

Pimpri-Chinchwad, January 20, 2021: The Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporation (PCMC) has slipped to number 41 in the smart city ranking released in January 2021. Earlier the city was ranked 19th position in May 2020.
The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs released the rankings on January 15. The rankings are based on various parameters like expenditure, project implementation and performance of civic bodies etc.
From 69 position in March and 19 in May last year, PCMC has slipped to 41 position in January 2021.
Pune city which secured no. 1 position in Maharashtra state earlier got ranked 18 in recent ranking while Nashik is ranked 20, Thane achieved the 23rd position in the list. Other cities performed well compared to the PCMC.
Various projects worth Rs 1125 crore, under smart city mission, were undertaken by PCMC administration from August 2018. Some of them are yet to be completed which impacted the city’s ranking. The city was involved in the third phase while others were involved in the 2nd phase in Smart city ranking, said an official.
