Pune, 24th June 2021: Several officials and staffers work in various departments at the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). These officers and employees have been entrusted with carrying out various financial and administrative functions of the civic body.

While carrying out their daily official work, these officers and employees come in contact with many citizens, contractors and other organizations. They are often offered bribes and various temptations to do official work. There is no denying the possibility that money is being demanded by some officers and employees for doing various kinds of official work. This is a violation of discipline.

“Municipal officials and employees should be very careful not to engage in any business other than work or any illegal activities. We will take strict action against the concerned person in case of a violation of the code of conduct,” warned PCMC Commissioner Rajesh Patil.

“There is a possibility that illegal work may be done by PCMC officers and employees. Such an act may tarnish the image of the municipal corporation in the minds of the people and violate the Maharashtra Civil Service (Conduct) Rules, 1979. Therefore, as a dutiful government official and employee, everyone must take care that such things do not happen in the future,” the municipal commissioner added.

“There is no denying the possibility that some unauthorized or unlicensed constructions or businesses may have been carried out by some officers and employees by encroaching on the land belonging to the civic body or the government. If the family members (husband/wife/son/daughter) of the municipal officials and employees are running businesses related to civic work, then it will be mandatory for them to inform the matter to the municipal corporation on time. All officers and employees need to be careful not to show up there so that the code of conduct is not violated,” he further added.

According to the circular issued by PCMC Commissioner Rajesh Patil, the above instructions have been given to all PCMC officers and employees. If any official or employee or their family member is indulging in businesses as mentioned above, it will be mandatory for the officer to inform the municipal corporation regarding it beforehand.
“Apart from this, the officers and employees, who have set up a business by encroaching on the reserved lands and properties of the government and the civic body, should immediately remove it at their own cost and immediately inform the civic body. Subsequently, if it is pointed out that such construction/business has taken place or has been done, immediate action will be taken to remove it and disciplinary action will be proposed against the concerned person,” the circular read.

The officials should not participate in any illegal or unauthorized construction or work. The circular clearly states that in case of violation of the code of conduct, strict action will be taken against the concerned official.
