Pune, 13th May 2022: On Monday, a gas tanker collapsed near the Khopolj exit point on the Pune-Mumbai expressway (e-way) and clashed with cars from the opposite lane. It was seen that within a few minutes, the path was cleared and the traffic started moving again.

Earlier when such accidents occurred, there used to be long lines of vehicles on the e-way. Due to this people had to wait for a long time before the accident site was cleared.

This change is possible due to Highway Safety Patrol (HSP)who added the ‘traffic division plans’. The plan managed the traffic and diverted it to other routes.

15 diversion plans have been made by HSP officials in three different scenarios – Pune to Mumbai side blocked, Mumbai to Pune side blocked and both sides blocked due to any reason and traffic diversion plans have been made with the help of local police, other governing bodies etc.

The HSP team, in collaboration with other government agencies, conducted a survey from Kiwale to Panvel on the e-way, charting numerous entry and departure locations, diversions, and U-turns for diverting traffic during an emergency situation, accidents, or traffic jams during the rainy season.
