Pimpri-Chinchwad: Citizens Show Overwhelming Support to Save Kasarwadi Railway Gate; 1,100 Signatures Collected in Just 3 Hours
Kasarwadi, 3rd August 2026: A signature campaign organized by Kasarwadi Nagrik Kruti Samiti at the Kasarwadi Railway Gate against the proposed closure of the railway crossing received an overwhelming response from local residents. In just three hours, nearly 1,100 citizens signed the petition, demanding that the decision to close the railway gate be withdrawn.
During the campaign, citizens were informed about the difficulties that would arise if the railway gate is closed. Residents pointed out that the railway gate serves as a vital link between the upper and lower parts of Kasarwadi. It is also the primary route to the crematorium, the Ganesh immersion ghat, and is extensively used for religious, cultural, and social processions.
Among those present at the campaign were Adv. Amit Chaukade, Sunny Salvi, Anil Ghorpade, Adv. Ajit Shinde, Gurunath Kurle, Pankaj Tambe, Rahul Dhone, Sambhaji Shendge, Jaydeep Sane, and Saksham Desai, along with several volunteers and local residents.
Sanjay Shendge Sir, Convenor of Kasarwadi Nagrik Kruti Samiti, said:
“We are not against development. However, development should not come at the cost of depriving citizens of essential public access. The Kasarwadi Railway Gate is an integral part of the daily lives of thousands of residents. We urge the authorities to immediately withdraw the decision to close the gate and consider the genuine concerns of the public. Instead, a Railway Over Bridge (ROB) or a Road Under Bridge (RUB) should be constructed at this location, and the parallel road along the railway line should be completed on priority. The overwhelming response to this signature campaign reflects the unity and determination of the people of Kasarwadi, and we will ensure that their voice reaches the Government and the Railway Administration.”
Kasarwadi Nagrik Kruti Samiti stated that all the signatures collected during the campaign will be submitted to the concerned authorities and public representatives, urging them to reconsider and withdraw the decision to close the Kasarwadi Railway Gate.
