Pune, May 15, 2020: Doctors serving in Pimpri-Chinchwad held a meeting on Wednesday with Pimpri – Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) administration to discuss the privacy of doctors if they tested positive for COVID -19 and also to lower the GST on PPE kits. Pimpri Chinchwad Doctors’ Association (PCDA), Family Physicians Association (FPA) and National Integrated Medicine Association (NIMA) members were present during the meeting.

The need for the convention stemmed from an incident last week wherein two doctors from Kalewadi tested positive and were subjected to harassment as the news went viral on social media. Doctors say the coronavirus is challenging core tenets of medicine, and doctors who are treating COVID- 19 patients are likely to get infected. Also, the GST on PPE kits needs to be reduced, so that it could be accessed by all the doctors treating COVID 19 patients, as a precautionary measure.

Many housing societies are not allowing entry to doctors who are coming to their home after treating COVID -19 patients. Doctors are being humiliated and mentally tortured, hence in the wake of rising Coronavirus cases, the doctors are urging for privacy if tested positive for COVID19.
