Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Inspector caught taking Rs 3 lakhs bribe, ACB DySP injured

Pimpri, September 28, 2019: The sleuths from anti-corruption bureau (ACB), Pune range, today arrested a Police Inspector of Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs three lakhs, the first instalment out of total Rs seven lakhs.

The accused Inspector Bhanudas Jadhav alias Anil Jadhav (56) was posted as in-charge of crime branch unit 2 and Mhalunge police chowky under Chakan police station. He was earlier arrested in Mumbai in a rave party and spent six months behind bars. His real name is Anil Jadhav and after the rave party case, he changed his name to Bhanudas Jadhav.

According to ACB, Inspector Jadhav had demanded Rs 10 lakhs bribe from an accused in a cheating case for helping him by filling the closure report in the court. After negotiations, the bribe amount was brought down to Rs seven lakhs. The accused lodged a complaint with ACB, which verified the bribe demand.

On Saturday, Inspector Jadhav asked the accused (complainant to ACB) to pay the first instalment of Rs three lakhs. Accordingly, Jadhav sent head constable Bhapkar to get the bribe money. Bhapkar asked the complainant to sit in a Scorpio vehicle and a driver took them to Kharabwadi in Khed taluka, Pune district. Bhapkar asked the complainant to keep the bribe money in the vehicle. After getting a hint, a team led by ACB DySP Shri Hari Patil reached the spot and identified himself to the driver of the Scorpio. However, the driver started the vehicle and tried to run over the police officer and fled with the bribe money. However, after some distance, the driver and head constable Bhapkar abandoned the vehicle and bribe money fled from there.

Later ACB team seized the vehicle, bribe money as well as detained Police Inspector Jadhav. An FIR has been registered against him with Chakan police station for offences under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Superintendent of Police (ACB) Rajesh Bansode, Additional SP Dilip Boraste supervised the ACB team which arrested Inspector Jadhav.
