Pune, November 27, 2020: The Auto Rickshaw Owner and Passenger Association had recently questioned the traffic police department and the Pimpri Chinchwad RTO for not taking any action against the auto-rickshaws which are either unfit for plying or are plying without a valid registration.

The head of the Auto Rickshaw Owner and Passenger Association Baba Kamble has informed that according to the rules and regulations, only the auto-rickshaws which are 20 years old since the date of purchase are fit for plying on the roads. But currently, many rickshaws can be seen which are older than 35 years and more. This situation is a serious threat to the life of the passengers and the transport system of the city.

Kamble said that some drivers are very reckless and at times, many of the drivers don’t even carry a license. This kind of behaviour affects the image of the rickshaw drivers and the innocent ones have to suffer the consequences. Police should act against such autorickshaw drivers

However, taking the complaint of the Auto Rickshaw Owner and Passenger Association in cognizance, ACP Shrikant Disale has said that the department is planning to partner up with some environmental NGOs and is going to conduct a drive to find out the unauthorized auto-rickshaw drivers. They may also take action regarding the complaints of reckless driving.
