Tathawade, 25th August 2025: Frustrated by daily traffic snarls and safety concerns, residents of several housing societies in Tathawade held a public demonstration on Sunday, demanding strict action against the illegal parking of heavy cargo vehicles on Gada Road.

Locals alleged that instead of serving as a key connector for commuters, the stretch has now become a parking lot for nearly 40 to 50 trucks and Hyva-type vehicles every day. They said the problem has escalated over the past few months, causing noise and air pollution, regular congestion, and accidents in the area.

“Every evening, this road gets completely blocked because of long queues of trucks. For families living here, stepping out has become a daily struggle,” said a resident of Kohinoor Sapphire.

Members from Kohinoor Sapphire, The Nook, Skysuper, Millennium Pacific, Nova Residency, Austin Park, and Ganga Amber societies — collectively representing nearly 3,000 families — joined the protest. Many carried placards urging authorities to take immediate corrective measures.

“We bought homes here with the expectation of a peaceful environment, but the constant presence of heavy vehicles has made the locality unsafe, especially for children and senior citizens,” said another resident from Austin Park.

The protesters also alleged that the trucks are being parked to facilitate transport operations of a nearby cement company. They appealed to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and local political leaders to intervene.

“This is not just a matter of inconvenience but a question of public safety. We will continue our agitation until the administration provides a permanent solution,” said a representative from the residents’ committee.
