Plastic Bag-Tied Newborn Rescued in Pune, Police Launch Investigation
Pune, 11th December 2024: In a shocking incident that has deeply saddened the citizens, a newborn baby was found abandoned in the Vadgaon Budruk area of the city. The baby, discovered in a plastic bag with its mouth tied to stifle its cries, was rescued late Monday night by locals and promptly admitted to Sassoon Hospital with the assistance of Sinhagad road police station, Pune city police. The baby is now in stable condition.
The incident occurred in Renuka Nagari, where concerned residents were alerted by the faint cries of the infant. On discovering the helpless child, they quickly informed the Sinhagad police, who arrived at the scene and took immediate action to ensure the baby’s safety.
A case has been registered against an unidentified individual at the Sinhagad Police Station, and efforts are underway to trace the parents of the baby. Authorities are also investigating whether the abandonment is linked to an unwanted pregnancy or an illicit relationship.
“The police are gathering information about recent births in hospitals in the area to identify the mother and uncover the circumstances that led to this inhumane act,” said a senior official from Sinhagad Police Station.
