Pune, 18th February 2024: Unauthorized advertisement flexes in various prominent locations in Pune have drawn the outrage of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Vikram Kumar.

Expressing his displeasure, he has directed all Skysign and Licence department inspectors and PMC’s Assistant Commissioners to promptly remove these unauthorized flexes and boards by Wednesday.

Commissioner Kumar himself plans to inspect the city, and strict action will be taken against inspectors in areas where such advertisements are found.

During an online meeting last week, suggestions were discussed, and the Commissioner emphasized the need for swift action against the defacement caused by unauthorized advertisements. In the past week, after noticing a proliferation of such ads in multiple squares and intersections, Commissioner Kumar issued orders to regional office officials for immediate action. He also warned of inspections scheduled for the following Wednesday.

The prevalence of political billboards is notable in the city’s advertising landscape, often granting temporary permission for events like birthdays or political contests. However, these billboards are frequently not removed as expected. The PMC is now spending resources to remove unauthorized advertisements, and officials attempting to take action are reportedly facing threats instead of cooperation.

Dr. Kunal Khemnar, Additional Commissioner of PMC, confirmed the Commissioner’s dissatisfaction with unauthorized billboards and stated that immediate action has been mandated across the city. Commissioner Kumar’s inspection is scheduled for the upcoming Wednesday.
