PMC Election 2026 Results Go Global: Punekars Follow Live Updates from 57 Nations
Pune, 21st January 2026: The results of the Pune Municipal Corporation elections drew global attention this year, with Punekars living and working abroad tuning in from as many as 57 countries to follow the outcome live.
Known as the cultural capital and education hub of Maharashtra, Pune has a large diaspora spread across the world. The civic body’s decision to stream ward-wise counting updates live on its official website for the first time helped connect overseas residents with the city’s democratic process.
According to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the results page recorded nearly 7 lakh unique visitors and around 41 lakh page views on counting day. Viewers logged in from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Norway, Australia, the UAE and Singapore.
“This was the first time PMC provided live election result updates on its website. At 15 counting centres across the city, dedicated staff were deployed to upload round-by-round data.
The website showed which candidate was leading, how many counting rounds had been completed and who had won in each ward,” said Rahul Jagtap, Deputy Commissioner (Information and Technology).
He added that citizens with a connection to Pune closely followed the updates from 57 countries across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia.
Country-wise viewers from Pune diaspora
The highest number of viewers were from the United States (4,000), followed by Germany (2,602), the UK (967), Singapore (612), the UAE (638), Canada (396), Australia (319), the Netherlands (299), Norway (230) and Hong Kong (139).
Apart from these, people also watched the results from Finland, Japan, France, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Romania, New Zealand, Oman, Spain, Thailand, Poland, China, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Kazakhstan.
PMC officials said the strong online response showed the emotional and civic connect Punekars continue to share with their home city, even while living thousands of kilometres away.
