PMC gives a nod for demolition of Pune University and E-Square flyover

Pune, July 7, 2020: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday issued a “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) for the demolition of flyovers at Savitribai Phule Pune University and E-Square Chowk. The process of demolishing these bridges will start anytime.

The metro-line from Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar is obstructed by the existing flyovers at University chowk and E-Square chowk. Therefore, PMRDA had proposed demolition of both these bridges. The standing committee of civic body has given a written approval to the PMRDA.

The monthly general meeting wasn’t held this time, due to COVID-19. The civic administration gave permission with the signatures of all the party leaders. However, the permission to demolish the bridges were granted on some conditions.

PMC’s condition for NOC: After demolition of the bridge, PMRDA should repair the roads by clear the debris on the road. Moreover, before demolishing the bridge, PMRDA should plann the traffic management by coordinating with the police. They should provide a planner to the PMC. The administration also stated that PMRDA should seek permission before starting the work of the new two-storey bridge as well.
