Pune, 5th March 2025: In a bid to tackle the persistent traffic congestion in Pune, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced plans to prioritize the development of 33 missing link roads across the city. These unconnected road stretches, critical for seamless travel, will be a major focus in the civic body’s 2025-26 budget.

The missing link roads, identified as part of the city’s development plan, aim to connect existing routes and reduce lengthy detours for commuters. Currently, incomplete stretches force citizens to navigate around bottlenecks, exacerbating traffic issues. The problem gained attention last month after frustrated residents formed a human chain to demand action on these stalled projects.

Responding to public outcry, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil met with PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale and urged immediate steps to resolve the issue. Patil also assured state government support for funding these projects.

In his budget presentation yesterday, Commissioner Bhosale confirmed that developing missing link roads would be a top priority. Of the 33 identified links, work on 30 has already commenced, while land acquisition for the remaining three is underway. The plan includes creating a central ring road and alternative routes to ease vehicular movement across key areas of the city.

The PMC has pledged to expedite land acquisition through negotiations and complete the projects in phases. Once operational, these missing links are expected to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce travel time for Pune residents.
