PMC Takes Strict Action: Pune Resident Fined Rs. 10,000 for Improper Drainage Disposal
Pune, 25th April 2024: A resident of Pune, identified as Simran Jeet from NIBM Road, has been fined heavily for what might seem like a minor infraction – the improper disposal of drainage water from his restaurant onto the street. This incident occurred on Tuesday (23rd April), at 2 pm on NIBM Road, Mohammed Wadi. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) took swift action in response.
PMC imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 on Simran Jeet for the improper disposal of his restaurant’s drainage water onto the street, prompting the action. The enforcement was carried out by Senior Health Inspector Naik and his team, under sections 3(A), 4, 244, and 376 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act of 1949.
This action comes amidst increasing pressure from citizens on PMC to impose substantial fines, amounting to hundreds of crores, for the untreated sewage water being discharged into rivers over the past few years. In response, PMC has begun to take stricter measures regarding such environmental violations.
