Pune, May 31, 2020: Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) the public bus service provider in Pune and Pimpri- Chinchwad, has cut salaries of 2,200 daily wage earners by 60% -80%. Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to not cut the salaries of employees during this difficult period, it has been seen that people are being sacked and salaries are being cut.

PMPML also took a decision which is the complete opposite of the PM’s appeal. As per the contract, these workers are paid only for the days they work. As they were asked to stay home for the last two months, they were only paid for the days they came for work. A lot of political upheavals came in when PMPML, refused to pay the daily wagers their salary without cutting it.

The workers said that PMPML should ask PMC and PCMC, who are stakeholders in PMPML, to provide necessary funds. After a lot of speculation, the public transport utility is still struggling to make sure that its employees are paid their monthly salary and there is no layoff or deduction in their salaries. The civic bodies have asked for the names of these daily wage earners to provide them with their salary without layoffs and accommodate them, officials said.
