Mumbai/Pune, 22nd April 2024: Early Sunday (21st April) morning near Panvel, a car crash claimed the life of a 55-year-old police official, Sub-inspector Sameer Chougule. While returning home to Sanpada in Navi Mumbai after attending a funeral, Chowgule lost control of his vehicle. The car collided with the metal railing along the road, resulting in severe damage to the vehicle.

Despite the deployment of airbags, the force of the impact was such that the metal railing pierced through, causing fatal injuries to the officer’s left shoulder. Despite efforts to save him, Chougule was declared dead upon arrival at Sub-District Hospital, Panvel, Raigad.

This incident underscores the inherent dangers of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, with previous instances of metal railings proving perilous for motorists. Last July, a similar incident narrowly spared the lives of three individuals when their vehicle collided with the railing, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced safety measures along this stretch of road.
