Pothole on Prabhat Road Turns Daily Commute Into a Safety Hazard

Pune, 31st August 2026: A large pothole on Prabhat Road, Lane No. 8, has emerged as a major safety concern for residents and commuters, with thousands of vehicles using the nine-metre-wide road every day. The pothole has reportedly remained unattended on the cement-concrete road for the past eight to ten days, raising serious questions about road safety and accountability.
The damaged stretch is located near a redevelopment project currently underway in the area. Residents allege that ongoing construction activity may have contributed to the deterioration of the road. The pothole has made commuting increasingly difficult, particularly for two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.
“Thousands of vehicles pass through this road every day, but no one seems to be taking responsibility for this pothole. It has been here for more than a week and is becoming dangerous,” said a local resident.
The situation is particularly hazardous for two-wheeler riders, especially after dark. “At night, the pothole is difficult to spot. A rider may suddenly come across it, increasing the risk of losing balance and meeting with an accident,” said a commuter who regularly uses the road.
Residents have also raised concerns over safety measures around the redevelopment site and questioned whether adequate precautions are being taken to prevent damage to public infrastructure.
“Development is necessary, but it should not come at the cost of public safety. If construction activity damages a public road, the concerned authorities and developers should take responsibility and ensure that it is repaired,” another resident said.
There are also concerns that water accumulation could worsen the condition of the damaged stretch if repairs are delayed further. With regular traffic continuing to pass through the busy road, residents are demanding immediate intervention from the civic authorities and those responsible for the redevelopment project.
Residents and commuters are now awaiting prompt action before the pothole turns from a daily inconvenience into a serious accident risk.
