New Delhi, 30th July 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of the ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign in the lead-up to Independence Day to pay tribute to the courageous martyrs of the nation. Speaking during his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast, Modi emphasized the significance of the ‘Amrit Mohatsav’ and the upcoming August 15 celebrations, declaring the commencement of a nationwide initiative called ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’.

The primary objective of this campaign is to honour the memory of the valiant martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s welfare. Throughout India, various programs and events will be organized in their remembrance. Additionally, special inscriptions will be installed in numerous village panchayats across the country to commemorate these remarkable personalities.

Another highlight of the campaign is the ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’, wherein soil from 7,500 ‘Kalash’ representing villages and corners of India, along with plants from different regions, will be carried to Delhi. The collected soil and plants will be used to establish an ‘Amrit Vatika’ close to the National War Memorial.

In his radio address, Modi praised the government’s progressive changes to the Haj policy, which allowed over 4,000 women to undertake the pilgrimage without a ‘Mehram’ or male companion. He commended the significant positive impact of this transformation, stating that previously, Muslim women were not permitted to perform Haj without a ‘Mehram’. Modi expressed gratitude to the Saudi Government for their cooperation in implementing these changes and shared the heartfelt letters he received from Muslim women expressing their appreciation.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the recent return of several artefacts to India from the US. Amidst natural calamities that have afflicted the nation in recent days, Modi drew attention to the resilience and collective efforts of the people, highlighting their commitment to water conservation and the remarkable plantation of 30 crore saplings in Uttar Pradesh in a single day, exemplifying public participation and awareness.
