New Delhi, 22 April 2021: On Thursday, the Delhi High Court verdict was given on the petition of social media platform Facebook and WhatsApp. The Delhi High Court dismissed the petition filed by Facebook and WhatsApp challenging social media companies’ order issued by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to investigate the new privacy policy. This means that now CCI will investigate the new privacy policy.
On 13th April, Naveen Chawla, The court of Justice completed the hearing on two separate petitions of Facebook and WhatsApp. While finishing the hearing, the court remarked that CCI does not reflect an investigation into the abuse of sovereign status, rather it appears to be concerned about the privacy of customers.
The court made this comment on CCI’s stand in which it said that it was not investigating violations of the privacy of individuals which the Supreme Court was looking into.
Facebook and WhatsApp have challenged CCI’s March 24 order ordering an inquiry into their new privacy policy.
