Pune, 27th February 2025: In an effort to curb traffic congestion caused by private buses stopping on major city roads to pick up passengers, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed allowing these buses to park at Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) depots during designated hours. A formal letter regarding this proposal will soon be sent to the PMPML administration for approval, sources said.

Currently, private passenger buses halt in large numbers at night and early morning in areas such as Padmavati, Sangamwadi, Nagar Road, Warje, Hadapsar, Wakdewadi, and Vadgaon. Since these buses pick up passengers directly from the roadside, vehicles behind them are often forced to slow down, leading to significant congestion.

To address this issue, the PMC’s Road Department has suggested allocating specific parking spaces within PMPML depots, ensuring that buses do not obstruct major roads during peak hours. If approved, this move could help streamline traffic flow and improve road safety.

The PMPML depots, being among the few locations in the city with ample space, are seen as a viable solution to this problem. The municipal corporation is now awaiting feedback from PMPML authorities on the feasibility of implementing this measure.
