Pune: 10,000 Cusecs Water Being Discharged From Khadakwasla Dam, Heavy Rains Continues In Catchment Areas

Pune, 13th June 2022: Due to incessant rains, the Khadakwasla dam has been filled to its full capacity. The discharge of water from this dam into the Mutha river has been going on at a speed of 10,246 cusecs since 6 am on Wednesday. Water storage in all the four dams has reached 12.23 billion cubic feet (TMC) or 41.96 per cent.

The catchment area of all the four dams witnessed heavy rains from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning. From Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, 160 mm of rain was recorded in Temghar dam area, 88 mm in Varasgaon dam area, 93 mm in Panshet dam area and 38 mm in Khadakwasla dam area. At present 12.23 TMC water has been accumulated in the Khadakwasla dam chain project.

On Tuesday night, all four dams had 11.57 TMC of water. The water supply has increased by 0.66 TMC on Wednesday morning as compared to Tuesday night, according to the Water Resources Department.

Meanwhile, due to less rainfall in the Khadakwasla dam area as compared to Tuesday, the speed of 13,142 cusecs flowing from this dam into the Mutha river has been reduced by 2896 cusecs on Wednesday morning, according to the Water Resources Department.

Update at 11 am: Due to reduction in rainfall, the water discharge from 11 am has been reduced to 5564 cusecs.
