Pune: 150 Congress, NSUI Workers Booked in Fresh FIR Over Alleged Forced Entry into COEP Hostel Following University’s Complaint
Shivajinagar, 26th August 2026: The controversy surrounding a video of a female student of the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) University has taken a new turn, with Shivajinagar police registering a case against around 150 Congress and NSUI workers for allegedly entering the university hostel premises without permission, raising slogans, pushing security guards and abusing students.
The case was registered following a complaint by Dr Raju Pachkor, chief administrative officer (hostel department) of COEP University. The university has around 10 hostel buildings housing nearly 2,000 students. Entry of outsiders is restricted without prior permission.
According to the complaint, some NSUI workers allegedly recorded a female student against her wishes on August 19 and circulated the video on social media. The university alleged that the student was made to claim that she was being charged fees at par with general-category students despite being admitted under the orphan student quota. The administration alleged that the incident brought disrepute to the university.
On August 21 evening, NSUI workers allegedly forced open the hostel gate, pushed security guards and entered the premises. They also allegedly raised slogans outside the girls’ hostel. Police reached the spot after being alerted and removed the protesters from the premises.
The university has also lodged a complaint against representatives of a news channel who had entered the hostel premises while covering the controversy and the subsequent protest. The complaint alleges that the journalists entered without permission.
The action against media representatives has raised questions over the university administration’s approach, with concerns being expressed over whether journalists covering student-related issues should face complaints for entering the premises while reporting the incident.
Shivajinagar police are investigating the case.
