Pune, 30th January 2025: In a heart-wrenching yet inspiring turn of events, the parents of a 17-year-old girl, who lost her life in a road accident in Narayangaon, have given a new lease of life to several individuals through organ donation.

The teenager, who had just celebrated her birthday on January 25, was riding pillion when the accident occurred. Despite being rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to Manipal Hospital, Baner, doctors declared her brain dead.

“In the midst of their profound grief, her parents—humble laborers—made an extraordinary decision to donate her organs,” said ZTCC Coordinator Arti Gokhale. “Their act of selflessness has helped save multiple lives, and their courage in this tragic moment is truly commendable.”

According to Gokhale, the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) allocated the donated organs as per medical guidelines. One kidney was transplanted to a 39-year-old woman at Manipal Hospital, Baner. The second kidney and pancreas were received by a 37-year-old woman at Jupiter Hospital.

The liver was split, with one part going to a 5-year-old boy at Sahyadri Hospital, Deccan Gymkhana, and the other to a 43-year-old man at Sahyadri Hospital, Nagar Road. Lungs were transplanted to a 33-year-old woman at Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College. All transplants were successfully conducted on January 29, and the recipients are reported to be in stable condition, Gokhale confirmed.

“As we extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, we also salute their remarkable act of kindness,” said Gokhale.
