Pune: 19-Year-Old Engineering Student Injured During Visapur Fort Trek, Rescued by Shivdurg Team
Lonavala, 27th July 2026: A 19-year-old engineering student from Satara was rescued after she slipped and fell near a lake while trekking at Visapur Fort on Sunday (July 26), prompting a challenging rescue operation amid rain, fog and slippery terrain.
The student, identified as Preeti Jadhav, is currently studying at D Y Patil College of Engineering in Akurdi. She had visited Visapur Fort with a group of around 10 friends when she slipped near a lake close to a bastion on the Bhatarashi side of the fort and fell unconscious.
According to the Shivdurg Mitra Lonavala rescue team, Jadhav’s friends alerted the team at around 1:05 pm. Following the call, the rescue team immediately mobilised personnel and equipment and travelled to Visapur in two vehicles.
A doctor who had reached the fort reportedly suspected a possible spinal injury, following which the rescue team arranged a spine stretcher and took additional precautions while moving the injured student.
The team reached Jadhav at around 2:30 pm and carefully shifted her onto the stretcher after assessing her condition. Rescue personnel, along with her friends and local residents, then carried her down the difficult route over rocks and uneven terrain.
The rescue operation was made more challenging by rain, fog and moss-covered rocks, which made the terrain slippery. The team continued the evacuation without taking a break and eventually brought Jadhav down to the ambulance, from where she was taken to a hospital for further treatment.
The Shivdurg Mitra Lonavala rescue team thanked the Lonavala Rural Police Station and local residents for their assistance during the operation.
