Pune: 21-Year-Old Held for Snatching Auto Driver’s iPhone 16 Pro Mobile

Pune, 13th July 2026: Shivajinagar police arrested a 21-year-old man within two hours of allegedly snatching a mobile phone worth Rs 1.37 lakh from an auto-rickshaw driver at Sangamwadi Chowk on Saturday morning and recovered stolen property worth over Rs 2.37 lakh from him.

The accused has been identified as Akash Suresh Waghire (21), a resident of Shantinagar, near Dattawadi Hospital, Shivajinagar.

According to police, the complainant, an auto-rickshaw driver, was robbed of his iPhone 16 Pro, valued at around Rs 1.37 lakh, by an unidentified man at around 6.45 am. A case of robbery was registered at Shivajinagar police station.

Police analysed CCTV footage from the area and, acting on information received from informers, tracked the accused while he was allegedly heading towards Mumbai carrying the stolen phone. A team intercepted and arrested him.

During the investigation, police recovered the stolen iPhone 16 Pro and a motorcycle worth around Rs 1 lakh, taking the total value of the seized property to approximately Rs 2.37 lakh.

Police said Waghire has also confessed to stealing the motorcycle, which was linked to a case registered at Chatushrungi police station. He is also wanted in two other theft cases registered at Vishrambaug and Bharati Vidyapeeth police stations.

The operation was carried out by a team from Shivajinagar police station under the guidance of senior officers. Further investigation is underway.
