Pune: 24-Hour Vehicle Inspection To Prevent Accidents On Expressways; Orders Of Transport Commissioner

Pune, 15th November 2022: Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar on Monday (November 14) ordered a 24-hour vehicle inspection to prevent accidents on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. A meeting of all regional and sub-regional transport officers of the state was organized on Monday under the chairmanship of Transport Commissioner Bhimanwar.

 

In this meeting, road safety and incidents of accidents on various highways in the state were reviewed.

 

The representatives of the Save Life Foundation and the Bloomberg Institute, who are working to prevent accidents on the expressway and take safety measures, gave a presentation on road safety and measures at the meeting.

 

A presentation was made by the representatives of these organizations regarding the accidents that took place on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway as well as on the old Mumbai-Pune highway. At this time, information was given that the number of accidents of vehicles going from Pune to Mumbai on the expressway is high.

 

 

“A special campaign should be conducted by Pune and Panvel Division on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and Mumbai-Pune Highway in December. In this campaign, teams of police, the Transport Department and IRB will patrol 24 hours. A plan will be made regarding the number of teams participating in this campaign as well as other measures.”

 

In the meeting, Bhimanwar ordered that vehicles will be checked for 24 hours on the Mumbai-Pune expressway.

 

Accidents occur when the brakes of vehicles fail while coming down the ghat on the expressway. Vehicles move ahead leaving the lane as well as it is also seen that vehicles stop on the expressway. In such a case, the speeding vehicle from behind hits the stopped vehicles. Most of the accidents are due to speeding and Transport Commissioner Bhimanwar ordered checking the vehicles to prevent accidents. Drivers should exercise self-discipline to prevent accidents. Bhimanwar has appealed that traffic rules should be followed.

 

For the convenience of the citizens out of 116 services provided by the Transport Department, 82 services are being provided online. Bhimanwar informed that citizens do not need to come to the Transport Office due to the online service.

 

The government is encouraging the use of electric vehicles. So far 52,520 electric vehicles have been registered in the Pune Division of the Regional Transport Department. The Regional Transport Officer Ajit Shinde said that the government has given concessions in the tax of electric vehicles and environmental conservation has been given more importance than revenue.
