Pune, 20th December 2022: Paying heed to the increasing issue of garbage burning, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken action against 49 people and has fined them Rs 500 for burning garbage in November and December.

Currently, the city produces 2,000 tonnes of rubbish every day, of which 30-35 per cent is dry trash. Dry trash weighs less than wet trash but takes up more space. Therefore, individuals decide to dispose of it by burning it. People burn dry garbage in vacant lots near gardens, open places near roadways, scrap yards, godowns, and housing society buildings.

According to data, the PMC has not taken any action in the previous months. However, the Corporation claims that action was taken, but data regarding it was not collected.

In November, the PMC found 37 persons flouting the law and fined them Rs 26,600. It has already taken action against 12 individuals in December.
