Pune: 70-Year-Old Woman Murdered in Daund, Severed Head Yet to be Found
Daund, 21st August 2026: A 70-year-old woman was allegedly murdered at her home in Daund taluka, with her severed head yet to be recovered, in what Pune Rural Police suspect was a fallout of a petty dispute.
The deceased, identified as Suman Kisan Shinde, a resident of Nagarmori in Daund, was found dead at her home around 3.15pm on Wednesday. Her body was found without the head. Her relatives informed her daughter, who lives in Shirur, following which she lodged a complaint at Daund police station.
A joint team of Daund police and the Pune Rural Police Local Crime Branch arrested two suspects within 12 hours of registering the case. They were identified as Vikram Dhanraj Alhat (26) of Samtanagar and Prasad Babulal Chavan (20) of Nagarmori.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Shinde had frequent disputes with the accused over petty issues. Police said one dispute involved Alhat’s pigeons and stray dogs that preyed on them. Investigators suspect the repeated arguments led to a grudge and eventually the murder.
The two accused were produced before a court and remanded in police custody for five days. Police are yet to recover Shinde’s severed head and are continuing the investigation.
The probe is being monitored by Pune Rural superintendent of police Sandeep Singh Gill, additional SP Ganesh Biradas and deputy SP Baburao Dadas.
