Pune: 82 Tree Fall Cases, 6 Waterlogging Incidents Reported Amid Rain, Gusty Winds in PMC Limits
Pune, 2nd April 2026: Gusty winds and a sudden spell of heavy rain on Thursday afternoon led to widespread disruptions across the city, triggering a surge in emergency calls to the fire brigade department of the Pune Municipal Corporation.
Fire control room officials said calls began pouring in around 2.30 pm, with multiple complaints of tree falls reported from areas including Wanowrie, University Road, Baner, Chavan Nagar, Aundh, Sinhagad Road, Bibvewadi (Gangadham), Janata Vasahat, Kale Padal, Tarawade Vasti, Sasane Nagar, Tadiwala Road, Koregaon Park, Maharshi Nagar, Dhankawadi, Katraj, Warje, Wadgaon Sheri and Pashan. Fire brigade teams were deployed at all locations.
Incidents of waterlogging were also reported from Warje (Sahyadri School), Raviwar Peth, Salisbury Park and Patil Plaza.
In a major incident on Sinhagad Road, a woman was trapped under a fallen tree near Navshya Maruti temple. Fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, rescued the woman and shifted her to a hospital for treatment.
Officials said that out of 82 tree fall complaints received so far, 52 have been attended to, while work was ongoing at other locations.
In another incident at Kondhwe Dhawade’s Bhimnagar area, the metal sheet roofing of a terrace structure atop a residential building was blown off due to strong winds and fell onto the road. Fire personnel cleared the debris using cutting equipment and restored traffic movement. No injuries were reported in this incident.
Overall, between 2.30 pm and 6 pm, the fire control room recorded 82 tree fall incidents, six cases of waterlogging, and one wall collapse. Several two-wheelers and four-wheelers were damaged due to falling trees and debris.
The entire fire brigade machinery has been activated under the leadership of chief fire officer Devendra Potphode. Around 20 fire tenders, two rescue vans and nearly 100 personnel have been deployed to handle the situation, officials said.
