Pune: ACB Arrests Two Agents At Wagholi Talathi Office For Demanding Rs 50,000 Bribe For Name Inclusion In 7/12 Land Extract

Wagholi, 7th June 2023: Two agents involved in a bribery scandal at the Talathi office in Wagholi were arrested yesterday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The agents had been soliciting bribes from individuals seeking assistance with their paperwork, claiming that the payments were necessary to appease the Talathis.

The accused have been identified as Bhausaheb Bhikaji Giri, 56 years old, residing in Avhalwadi, Wagholi, and Sanjay Maruti Lagad, 53 years old, residing in Lohegaon. One of the victims had lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Department after being approached by Giri and Lagad.

The complainant had recently purchased land in the Wagholi area under his wife’s name. For adding her name in the 7/12 land extract, the accused demanded bribe. The brokers had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000, with the pretext that Talathi Patange required a payment of Rs 45,000.

Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB devised a plan to apprehend Giri and Lagad by setting up a trap. The suspects were subsequently caught and taken into custody. A case has been registered against them, and further investigations are being conducted by Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhuri Bhosale, under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe and Additional Superintendent Dr Sheetal Janve-Kharade.
