Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Pune, 2nd November 2025: A tragic road accident near the Bundgarden Metro Station claimed three young lives early this morning after a speeding car crashed into a metro pillar. The victims have been identified as cousins Yash Prasad Bhandari (23) of Thergaon, Ritwik alias Om Vinayak Bhandari (23) of Pimpri Gaon, and Khushwant Tekwani from Beed.
According to the Koregaon Park police, the incident occurred around 5 am when a Volkswagen Polo car, registered with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Regional Transport Office, was travelling at high speed along Bundgarden Road. The driver reportedly lost control, causing the car to ram into a pillar under the Bundgarden metro station.
Eyewitnesses told police that there was a loud noise as the car collided with the structure. Several passersby rushed to the spot to help. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled, and one of the occupants sitting in the back seat was found unconscious with glass shards embedded in his body. The accident was immediately reported to the police control room.
All three were taken to Sassoon General Hospital, where Yash and Om were declared dead on arrival, while Khushwant Tekwani succumbed to his injuries later during treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Milind Mohite told Punekar News, “Yash and Ritwik worked as salesmen, while Khushwant was a student at MIT College. We are investigating where they were coming from and whether drunken driving was involved.”
Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact sequence of events and the car’s speed at the time of the crash. The accident has once again raised questions about overspeeding and road safety in the city, especially during early morning hours when roads are relatively empty.
