Pune, 12th May 2026: Pune, 12th May 2026: The Shivajinagar Sessions Court on Tuesday extended the police custody of Bhimrao Kamble (65), the accused in the rape and murder of a 3.5-year-old girl in Nasrapur village, Bhor taluka, by two more days. Kamble was produced before the court via video conferencing, where the judge remanded him in police custody till May 14.

The incident occurred on May 1 in Nasrapur. According to police, the accused lured the toddler, who was playing in front of her house, to a cattle shed. He sexually assaulted the child, then bludgeoned her to death with a stone. He allegedly hid her body under a pile of cow dung.

The girl’s family noticed her missing in the afternoon and began searching. Her body was later found inside the cattle shed. CCTV footage from the area reportedly captured the accused leading the child towards the shed, which helped police identify and arrest him. The girl had come to the village with her family to spend her summer vacation at her grandmother’s house.

Local residents expressed outrage over the incident and staged a protest, surrounding the police. The accused was handed over to the police after being beaten by villagers.

This is not the first time the accused has faced such allegations. According to reports, he has previously been acquitted twice in similar cases due to lack of evidence. Many locals and observers are now demanding strict punishment in this case to ensure justice for the victim.

Earlier last week, the state government appointed Ajay Misar as special public prosecutor to appear for the victim in the case. The rural police have said they are trying to submit the chargesheet in the matter within two weeks to ensure that the trial is completed on priority and the accused is punished. CM Devendra Fadnavis while speaking to reporters had said that the government will try to get capital punishment to the accused in the case.
