Pune: Action To Be Taken Against Schools In PMC For Not Having Seperate Toilets For Boys And Girls, Says Minister Uday Samant

Pune 4th August 2023: Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant has informed the state assembly in an ongoing session that the government will instruct the concerned officials to take a strict action against the schools in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) jurisdiction for failing to build seperate toilets for Boys and Girls. He replied to questions raised by BJP MLA from Pune’s Parvati assembly constituency Madhuri Misal about various issues related to PMC run schools.

Samant also said that the government will ensure that an inspection campaign will be conducted in Pune Municipal Schools to address various issues. He assured that the steps will be taken to ensure that the students do not have to loose academic years due to issues.

Minister Samant said that there are a total of 272 primary schools under the Pune Municipal Corporation’s primary education department, with Marathi, English, Urdu, and Kannada mediums. Among these, 185 are Marathi medium, 33 are Urdu medium, 52 are English medium, and two are Kannada medium schools. Currently, there are 2,425 approved teaching positions in all these schools, with 352 positions vacant. The recruitment process for these vacant positions is underway through the School Education Department, and it is expected to be completed in the next two to three months, he said.
