Pune: Activist’s Complaint Prompts PMC to Fine Elina Living Rs 20,000 for Sanitation Breach
Mohammadwadi, 11th April 2025: In response to the complaint of Ganga Kingston society members of Mohammadwadi, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a notice and imposed a fine of ₹15,000 and ₹5,000 to Akshay Gaikwad, associated with Ramkrishna Cine Exhibitors, residing in Elina Living, Mohammadwadi, and Chaphalkar Karandikar Developers (Elina Living Labour Camp), under city sanitation rules.
The core complaint is that the drainage water of Elina Living society was being released openly, which is a violation of municipal cleanliness regulations. The drainage water of Elina Living Labour Camp was released directly into the nearby society, Ganga Kingston. This has raised the issue of cleanliness. Responding to this, an Activist and one of the society members of Ganga Kingston, Jaymala Dhankikar, has filed a complaint to PMC.
Taking immediate action to this, PMC has imposed a fine under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act (1949) for disturbing public hygiene and order against the individuals.
According to the society member of Ganga Kingston and Activist Jaymala Dhankikar, “The Elena Society’s reckless management has led to a severe health hazard by releasing untreated drainage and dirty water into Ganga Kingston. This is unacceptable and poses significant risks to the health and well-being of our residents. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has rightfully taken action and imposed fines, but this should serve as a warning to all societies to take their responsibilities seriously. The labour camp drainage water released into our society is a ticking time bomb, threatening to unleash a host of waterborne diseases. I commend the PMC for taking action on our complaint and urge them to continue monitoring the situation to ensure compliance.”
