Camp, 10th September 2024: It has come to light that cyber criminals defrauded a doctor from Pune’s Camp Area, associated with the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), of Rs 1,22,53,000 by promising high returns on stock market investments. A 32-year-old doctor has filed a complaint at the Cyber Police Station. Based on this complaint, a case has been registered against the cybercriminals under the Information Technology Act of 2000, along with relevant sections of the BNS for cheating.

According to the police, the doctor, who works at AFMC, received a message from the criminals a few days ago. The message promised substantial returns if he invested in the stock market. The doctor responded and was added to a group where he was asked to download an app that provided stock market information. The criminals convinced him that higher investments would yield greater returns.

The doctor proceeded to deposit money regularly into an account provided by the criminals. They falsely claimed that he had earned a profit of Rs 10.26 Crore. When he tried to withdraw the money, he was informed that he needed to pay 5 % of the profit, amounting to Rs 46 lakh 45 thousand 856, to access his funds. The criminal used vague language when he demanded clarification. Realizing he was being scammed, the doctor recently reported the fraud to the cyber police station. Senior Police Inspector Suresh Shinde is investigating the case.
