Pune Airport Breaks Records, Surpasses One Crore Passengers in 2024

Viman Nagar, 10th January 2025: Pune airport reached a significant milestone in 2024, recording a total passenger traffic of over one crore, marking an 8.88% increase compared to the previous year. For the first time, the airport saw total passenger traffic touch 1,02,77,695, up from 94,39,335 in 2023.
Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke expressed optimism about the continued growth, stating, “The increase in passenger traffic reflects the rising demand for air travel in Pune. With the airport’s expansion, we expect to see a growth of 10% in 2025.”
The international passenger count also saw a notable rise, with 1,98,810 international travelers passing through Pune airport in 2024, up from 1,70,503 in 2023. Domestic passenger traffic surged to 1,00,78,885, a significant increase from the 92,68,832 recorded in the previous year.
“On many days, the airport handles over 200 flight movements,” Dhoke added, highlighting the growing volume of operations at the airport.
December 2024 was a particularly busy month, with the airport setting a new record by serving 9,95,454 passengers, the highest monthly total ever. An airport official noted, “Travel during the festive season was at its peak, and the operation of both the new terminal and the old one contributed significantly to managing the crowd. The inline baggage screening system at the new terminal minimized hassles for passengers.”
In a significant update, the old terminal building of Pune airport is set to close for renovations in February 2025. Dhoke confirmed that the building would shut down for approximately one year to undergo extensive upgrades as part of the airport’s ongoing expansion.
