Pune Airport: CISF Detains Suspected Fraudster With IDs in Three Different Names
Viman Nagar, 24th September 2026: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) detained a suspected fraudster at Pune Airport on Thursday after he allegedly sought money from a passenger using a false story.
During the inquiry, CISF personnel reportedly found multiple identity documents bearing different names and linked the suspect through CCTV footage to a similar fraud reported at the airport earlier this month.
The incident took place around 5:45 am, when a passenger who had arrived in Pune from Hyderabad on IndiGo flight 6E-351 for official work was allegedly approached by the suspect outside the arrival gate.
According to the preliminary information, the suspect told the passenger a fabricated story and sought financial assistance of ₹20,000. The passenger, believing the plea, transferred ₹11,000 through Google Pay to the account specified by the suspect.
CISF personnel from the Security Operations Control Centre (SOCC) and Crime and Intelligence Wing (CIW) noticed the suspicious interaction and stopped the man for questioning.
During verification of his documents, CISF personnel allegedly found multiple identities. The Google Pay account into which the money was transferred was reportedly in the name of Gujjarlapudi Bala Koteswara Rao.
However, the suspect’s Aadhaar card and driving licence allegedly carried the name M.V. Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. A faculty identity card from Parul University was also allegedly recovered from him, bearing the name Alluru Shyam Prasad.
The suspect reportedly failed to give a satisfactory explanation for the different identities and the use of another person’s name for the payment account. He was subsequently detained.
After being informed about the findings, the passenger agreed to lodge a formal complaint against the suspect.
CCTV links suspect to earlier Pune Airport fraud
The CISF inquiry also reportedly linked the detained man to an earlier fraud at Pune Airport.
On September 1, 2026, a passenger was allegedly cheated of ₹18,600 in the city-side area of the airport using a similar modus operandi. Following the incident, CISF personnel increased surveillance in the area.
After Thursday’s detention, CCTV footage from the September 1 incident was examined. According to the CISF, the detained man was identified as the same person seen in the earlier incident.
During questioning, he allegedly admitted his involvement in the September 1 incident. A complaint regarding that case had already been lodged with the cyber crime authorities.
Following the preliminary inquiry and the passenger’s formal complaint, CISF handed over the detained suspect to Vimantal Police Station for further legal action and investigation.
