Pune Airport to Be Renamed ‘Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Airport’ Following State Cabinet Approval
Pune, 23rd September 2024: The Maharashtra State Government has given the green light to rename Pune International Airport as ‘Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Airport.’ This decision, taken during a cabinet meeting led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, will now be forwarded to the Central Government for final approval.
Chief Minister Shinde shared the news in a post on X, where he also provided updates on various schemes and benefits aimed at the public.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol, shared the news on X, stating that the proposal to rename the airport as ‘Jagadguru Santshrestha Tukaram Maharaj Pune International Airport’ has been approved by the state government. He mentioned that the cabinet has approved the proposal, and it will soon be sent to the Central Government for further consideration.
Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, who previously discussed the proposal in Pune, played a key role in getting it approved in the cabinet’s first meeting after his announcement.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had earlier voiced his support for the renaming and assured that the Central Government would back the decision.
Mohol confirmed that the renaming process is now underway.
