Viman Nagar, 9th June 2025: Private vehicle drivers picking up or dropping off passengers at Pune International Airport’s new terminal will soon face strict time limits, with the airport administration set to implement a waiting restriction within a month. Those who exceed the allotted time, expected to be between 10 and 15 minutes, will be required to pay additional charges as a penalty.

This move comes as the airport grapples with severe traffic congestion, especially during nighttime when over a hundred vehicles are often parked in the terminal area. Many drivers arrive 30 to 40 minutes before their passengers, ignoring repeated instructions to vacate the area, which leads to traffic jams and inconveniences both for travelers and airport authorities.

For the first time, Pune Airport will introduce a time restriction for vehicles, aligning its policy with major airports like Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, where a 10-minute limit is already in place. At these airports, vehicles parked beyond the permitted time face fines ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500.

Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke confirmed that a committee has been formed to finalize the details of the time limit. Once the committee submits its report, the proposal will be sent to headquarters for interim approval, after which the restriction will be enforced.

Yuvraj Singh Rajput, Vice Chairman of Aeromall, Pune, emphasized the necessity of this measure, noting that despite repeated warnings and the deployment of 12 wardens, drivers continue to linger in the terminal area. The new time-bound system is expected to streamline traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve the overall passenger experience at Pune Airport’s new terminal.
