Pune, 19th June 2021: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar expressed anger over the crowds at tourist spots, markets and other places after the restrictions were relaxed in Pune.

Stating that many people are leaving the state, he also warned that Pune residents will be facing quarantine for 15 days on their return if the trend continues. He was speaking at a press conference after reviewing the COVID situation in Pune. He has also appealed not to make the government issue such an order.

“Police officials and people’s representatives have said that tourist places like Lonavala, Khandala, Mahabaleshwar and Khopoli are very crowded on Saturdays and Sundays. There are long queues. We fail to understand why citizens are doing this. Citizens need to take this seriously. Many people have started moving out of the state. If they are going for Devdarshan (pilgrimage), we will not stop them, this is part of their faith. But some are going trekking and other non-important activities. If that happens, the people of Pune will have to remain in quarantine for 15 days after they return. Such orders will have to be issued,” said Pawar.

“Although the Corona crisis is slowly receding, all of us in the government and officials have decided that the shops will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays and the non-essential shops will remain open only from Monday to Friday. If the situation worsens, things will change. Pune residents are wondering why it is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Because even though the corona is declining in Maharashtra, it is still high in some places like Raigad, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Beed, Osmanabad, and Kolhapur,” he added.

He also added that doctors from the task force said a third wave was expected in the United States, England and South Africa. This is especially the case in the United States and England, where large-scale vaccinations have been carried out.

Ajit Pawar informed that Bahirwadi village in Purandar taluka of Pune district has been vaccinated 100 per cent and said that this is the first village in the country to do so.
