Pune: Around 3 Lakh Citizens Fined In Last 4 Months For Not Wearing Masks

Pune, October 22, 2020: It is made mandatory to wear a mask while going out to avoid the spread of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) and if found violating the rule, a fine is charged by the authorities. Therefore, from the last four months, a fine of Rs 12.65 crore has been collected from 3,13,208 citizens of Pune city and District for not wearing masks.

A fine of Rs 5,86,87,500 has been recovered from 1,20,816 citizens of Pune. A fine of Rs 2,62,7,680 has been collected from 28,780 citizens of Pimpri-Chinchwad and Rs 4,16,17,800 has been recovered from 1,63,612 villagers in rural areas of the district.

Pune city, Pimpri Chinchwad, the rural police and the gram panchayats of the district have taken this action separately against the people in their respective areas. The amount of fine recovered by the Gram Panchayat has been deposited in the Gram Fund of the concerned Gram Panchayat. Out of the total fines levied to the citizens in the rural areas of the district, 11,109 are from 14 municipal areas of the district. A fine of Rs 42,10,400 has been procured from these citizens.

“Out of the total fines imposed in rural areas, the rural police collected Rs 2,58,06,900 from 1,20,731 citizens and the gram panchayats collected Rs 1,16,500 from 31,772 villagers”, said Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Ayush Prasad.
