Pune: Arrests Made After Road Rage Erupts Into Violent Brawl in Bhavani Peth
Bhavani Peth, 7th February 2024: Late on Monday night, the Pune police apprehended seven individuals and filed charges against four others in connection with a road rage incident that took place at AD Camp Chowk in Bhavani Peth around 4:45 pm earlier that day. The clash stemmed from cross-complaints by two groups involved in the altercation.
Senior Inspector Maruti Patil from the Samarth police station provided details, stating, “Three persons suffered injuries. All the 11 people are members of two families residing in Nana Peth and Bhawani Peth, primarily engaged in occupations like driving autorickshaws.”
The incident was triggered when a 19-year-old motorist recklessly rode his two-wheeler and overtaken a motorcyclist at an uncomfortably close distance. This minor altercation between the two riders rapidly escalated into a full-blown brawl. The involvement of family members on both sides intensified the confrontation, leading to an exchange of blows and the use of sticks and stones.
“We have arrested seven individuals from both sides, registering cases related to causing voluntary hurt, unlawful assembly, rioting, criminal intimidation, and abuse,” informed Patil.
