Pune: Assault Case Filed Against Individual for Attacking MSEDCL Employees in Chakan

Chakan, 31st March 2024: A case has been filed against an individual for assaulting employees of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) during a routine operation to address overdue electricity bills and instances of electricity theft. The incident occurred on Saturday (30th) in the Shikshak Colony area of Chakan.

 

Rama Ibatwar, a 37-year-old MSEDCL employee residing in Chakan, filed a complaint with the Chakan police station regarding the altercation. A case was registered against Aniket Pandharinath Yelwande, a resident of Chakan.

 

According to the police, the accused and his colleagues visited the Shikshak Colony in Chakan to collect outstanding electricity bills. Upon confronting the accused about his overdue bill payment, he claimed to have no funds available. Notably, while addressing the arrears, the accused was found to have tampered with the meter connection. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the accused was stealing electricity from the meter installed at his grocery shop and HDFC ATM. As a result, the complainant instructed his colleagues to disconnect the unauthorized connections.

 

In response, the accused resorted to verbal abuse and threw stones at the employee tasked with disconnecting the connection. He also directed threats and abusive language towards the complainant, warning of dire consequences if the incident was reported to the police. Furthermore, when the complainant attempted to record the altercation on his mobile phone, the accused physically assaulted him and attempted to seize his device.

 

Chakan Police have initiated an investigation into the matter to ascertain the full details and take appropriate legal action.
