Mundhwa, 9th May 2026 : A 29-year-old beautician was allegedly strangled to death in Pune’s Keshavnagar area, with her body later found dumped by the roadside near a garbage depot in Mundhwa, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Afreen Salim Pathan, a resident of Wadgaon Sheri. A murder case has been registered at the Mundhwa Police Station and police have launched a search for the accused.

According to police, Afreen worked in the beauty parlour business and provided home beauty services to women clients. On Tuesday evening, she had reportedly left home to attend a service call from a female customer. Later that night, her body was found lying on the roadside near the Keshavnagar garbage depot.

After receiving information about the incident, police rushed to the spot. Initially, police suspected it to be a road accident and believed she may have died after being hit by a vehicle.

However, the case took a dramatic turn after the post-mortem examination conducted at Sassoon General Hospital revealed that Afreen had been strangled to death. Following the report, police registered a case of murder and began investigating the incident from a different angle.

Police officials said the area near the garbage depot lacks CCTV surveillance, making it difficult to trace the accused. Senior officers from the crime branch, along with Senior Police Inspector Smita Wasnik, visited the crime scene after the incident came to light. Police Inspector Sagar Gode is leading the investigation.
