Pune: Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Probe Suicide Case: Student’s Death in Engineering College Restroom

Pune, 20th March 2024: A shocking incident took place where a young woman set herself on fire in the restroom of an engineering college. The girl died during treatment in a private hospital. Bharti Vidyapeeth police have registered a case against the college girl and one of the canteen employees in this case.

The girl who committed suicide has been identified as Renuka Balaji Salunke (age 19). In this regard, her father Balaji Dhondiba Salunke (age 49, a resident of District Dharashiv) has filed a complaint at Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station. According to his complaint, a case has been registered against the college girl Muskan Mahendra Singh Sidhu and canteen employee Satish Jadhav for abetting suicide.

According to the police, Renuka was studying at the Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering. Jadhav, an employee of the Engineering College canteen, was harassing her. He had sent a message to Renuka’s mobile. He harassed her by sending messages saying “Are you that busy? I love you”. Renuka lived in the hostel of an engineering college. Muskan Sidhu, who lives with her, did not allow her to study and also asked her to switch off the lights in the room at night. Muskan had troubled her. Due to stress, Renuka set herself on fire on March 7 in her hostel toilet. She was then admitted to a private hospital with severe burns.

On getting information about this incident, Senior Police Inspector Dashrath Patil, and Assistant Inspector Varsha Tawde of Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station visited the spot. Renuka, who was undergoing treatment in a private hospital, had stated to the police before her death. She died during treatment. The police registered a case based on the complaint given by the father and the death statement. Assistant Police Inspector Varsha Tawde is investigating.
