Pune: Bhimashankar Temple to Get Major Upgrade as Maharashtra Govt Clears Rs 172.22 Crore Project

Pune, 20th May 2026: The Maharashtra government has approved a development plan worth Rs 172.22 crore for the overall development of the holy Jyotirlinga shrine at Bhimashankar Temple and for improving facilities for devotees.

The approval was granted during a meeting of the apex committee held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in the presence of Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar.

MLA Dilip Walse Patil said the “Shri Kshetra Bhimashankar Ideal Village Project Development Plan” will help address increasing traffic congestion, environmental concerns and the growing needs of devotees visiting the temple throughout the year.

Several facilities have been proposed under the project, including a heritage market, improved sanitation infrastructure, eco-friendly EV shuttle bus services, a new health centre, school, gram panchayat office and a modern waste management system.

Officials said the development plan has been designed while preserving the religious sanctity and ecological balance of the Bhimashankar area. The administration will undertake planned development to create a safer, cleaner and more convenient environment for devotees.

The meeting was attended by Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jaykumar Gore, Public Works Minister Shivendraraje Bhosale, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, senior officials and representatives from various government departments.
