Pune: Bike Rider Hurt by Kite String on Chhatrapati Shivaji Bridge, Police Crack Down on Nylon Manja

Shivajinagar, 15th January 2025: A senior citizen was injured in a freak accident involving a kite string on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Bridge on Tuesday evening. The injured, identified as Devram Dattatray Kamthe (67), a resident of Shivajinagar and originally from Purandar taluka, was discharged after receiving first aid at a nearby hospital.

The incident occurred around 5 PM when Kamthe was riding his bike from Shivajinagar towards Shaniwarwada. A kite string suddenly appeared in his path. Kamthe attempted to move it away with his hand but was struck by its noose, injuring his thumb and cheek. The tight string caused additional damage to his thumb before he could free himself.

This incident comes amidst heightened police action against the illegal sale and use of nylon Manja (kite string), which has been banned by the courts due to its hazardous nature. The police have reiterated their appeal to citizens to avoid using nylon Manja.
