Pune: Car Collides With Security Officer’s Vehicle in Minister Chandrakant Patil’s Convoy; Two Men and Three Women Detained
Kothrud, 18th September 2024: A car carrying security personnel in State Higher Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil’s convoy was struck by a speeding vehicle early Tuesday morning (17th September). One security officer sustained injuries in the accident. The vehicle that caused the collision was occupied by three young women and two young men, who police suspect were under the influence of alcohol.
The police have taken the five individuals into custody, and a case has been registered against them at Kothrud Police Station. The incident occurred while Minister Patil was returning home around 12:30 am after visiting several Ganesh Mandals in the city on Monday (16th September). As the convoy moved from Ashish Garden Chowk towards Mahatma Society in Kothrud, a speeding car collided with the vehicle carrying Patil’s security officers near Mahesh Vidyalaya.
The impact caused the bonnet of the offending car to fly up, deploying the airbags. The car directly behind Patil’s vehicle was involved in the collision, causing it to hit Patil’s car from the rear. Following the incident, Patil immediately halted the convoy, exited his vehicle, and checked on the situation.
For security reasons, the convoy personnel quickly escorted Patil to his residence in Mahatma Society. Meanwhile, the five individuals involved in the collision, including the driver, were sent to Sassoon Hospital for medical examination. Government vehicle driver Hanumant Ram Khade has filed a formal complaint at Kothrud Police Station.
The driver responsible for the crash is a 25-year-old student from Kothrud. Both vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded by the police.
Minister Chandrakant Patil stated that the detainees are currently being interrogated by the police. The security vehicle was damaged in the collision, and Kothrud Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
